Another bumper week of racing for Radcliffe Athletics Club

29 April 2024 (by D.Cartwright)

Radcliffe AC chairperson Donna Cartwright had a race week to remember. Finishing 2nd lady and 1st in her age category (LV45) at the Cowm Reservoir 5k multi terrain race in a time of 22 minutes and 7 seconds, before completing the not so small task of the North Wales 50k Ultra Challenge later in the week. And if that wasn’t enough, Donna, competing in her first ever ultra-marathon, finished in an epic time of 6 hours, 16 seconds to claim first lady and 3rd place overall. The 50km, which is in fact just under 54 km, starts in the Nova at Prestatyn, before taking runners to the beach at West Shore Llandudno with an overall ascent of 2700ft to contend with.

There was a fantastic turnout of Radcliffe racers at the Wray Scarecrow 10k over the weekend. First over the line for Radcliffe was Andrew O’Donnell in 41 minutes, 4 seconds, whilst Sheila Jones came first in her age category (V65) with a time of 50:35.

Also running at Wray Scarecrow 10k, which is part of the Wray Scarecrow Festival, were Mark Williams (43:47), Mark Garner (45:02), Dave Rushton (48:22), Dominic Parry (49:00), Kathryn Davies (54:38), Wayne Holden (66:57), and Sara Parry (81:06).

Radcliffe Athletes were also in action at the Bolton Community 10k including new member Lisa who set a new personal record in her first showing in a Radcliffe vest, with a smashing time of 50:41.

Elsewhere, Karen Doherty took part in the Keswick Round the houses in 41:18, whilst Mike Kay was across the pond, finishing the Boston Marathon in a time of 3 hours, 51 minutes, and 2 seconds.
