Radcliffe meets Radcliffe
This Wednesday, Karen Doherty enjoyed weaving the streets of Keswick in the sunshine over at the Keswick Round the Houses 4.5 mile race, which she finished in 41:07.
On Saturday, Tracy Wroe celebrated the fantastic milestone of 250 parkruns over at Peel.
Seven senior members also made the most of the week’s lovely weather at the Blackpool Festival of Running 10k. After setting off from the North Promenade, Mark Williams was the first back in just 40:48, picking up first MV60, followed by Neil Swithenbank (41:40) (PB), Daniel Hunt (47:29), Nathan Walker (47:43) (PB), Cameron Sharples (47:56) (PB), Alison Howarth (58:32) and Peter Warr (59:27).
Five juniors also hit the 2k event in the festival, with Seth achieving not only a PB but also third place overall in 8:05, followed by William (9:48) (PB), Grace (16:06), Alexandra (16:06) (with the two girls finding time to rescue a dog mid-run and completing the majority of the course hand in hand) and Benjamin (17:34).
On Sunday, the club’s Chairperson, Simon Foulkes, headed to this year’s record-breaking London Marathon raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity. Simon, finishing in an impressive time of 3:39:07, has raised £3,500 so far in honour of friend Tristan Cano, despite suffering a badly sprained ankle due to a projectile water bottle halfway through the course. Simon was joined by three other club members who also put in fantastic performances, with Steven Fawcett the first to finish in only 3:29:34(PB) along with Emma Horner (3:55:59) (PB) and Laura Tracey (4:36:06) (PB).
Paul Stevens also completed the unofficial reverse London Marathon at midnight, which he completed in 5:11:51 before supporting teammates on the official course in the morning.






Peak Divide - Two take on Two
Two members started in Manchester to end in Sheffield for Peak Divide - A 76K, Two day self navigated trail run across the Peak District National Park with a combined 7,000 feet of elevation over the weekend long event.
Kath Biddle finished day 1 with a time of 6 hours 39 and day 2 in 5:32
Phil Hopkins finished day 1 with a time of 9 hours 13 and day 2 in 7:08
On Sunday, Twelve members from Radcliffe took on the Manchester Marathon, the 2nd largest Marathon in the UK, with 42,000 entrants, and one of the flattest Marathon routes giving the opportunity to score a personal best. The route starts in Old Trafford taking in the streets and enthusiastic crowds towards south Manchester before returning north towards the city centre and ending on Oxford Road in front of a crowd of thousands outside Manchester University.
First back for the club was Alex Field with a time of 3:42:48, followed by Adam Wills (3:56:25), Amanda Callan (4:03:30), Mark Taylor (4:05:22), Lucie Tighe (4:10:14), Sheila Jones (1st F70) - (4:14:51), Laura Aiken (4:28:24), Lisa Antrobus (4:33:54), Dominic Parry (4:50:21), Stephen Crowe (4:50:54), Natalie Hitchen (6:08:04) and David Bartlett (6:34:16)
Also on Sunday, two club members took part in the Lancaster Three Bridges 10K.
A scenic route following paths along the river lune, and as the name suggests, the route crosses the river via three bridges , the Millennium Bridge, Aqueduct Bridge and Greyhound Bridge. Daniel Hunt finished in a time of 47:23 followed by John Szubert in 53:20


Khama Banda of Radcliffe AC shines at the Wizz Air Milano Marathon
Following the previous day’s road race in Halifax, John Szubert took on a much less flat and more challenging course nearby on the bank holiday Monday, the Halifax Urban Trail 10k, which he completed in 1:04:23.
On Saturday, three Radcliffe ladies headed to North Wales for SheUltra, the world’s largest all-female 50km ultramarathon. The route took runners on the scenic Llyn Peninsula, raising funds for women’s cancer research. Starting strong for Chemane Thomas’ first ultra, she finished in 6:25:16, along with Kath Biddle (7:02:58) and Bev Quinton (10:55:50).
Junior Kian also hit the very impressive milestone of 100 parkruns over at Heaton parkrun!
Battling windy conditions and a tough course through the trails and fells on Sunday, Chris Mihalyi braved the Montane Howgills Trail Marathon. Set in the village of Sedbergh, Chris was back in a time of only 05:52:23 despite the 4,320ft of elevation and having only just booked the gruelling race on a last-minute whim.
The seventh race in the club’s championship took place on the same day at the Mersey Tunnel 10k, setting off from the emergency Tunnel exit road on Bevington Bush on the Liverpool side of the River Mersey before dropping directly down on to the main approach road to deliver a fast descent into the Kingsway Tunnel. Andrew O’Donnell was the first to bag a PB in 40:16, followed by Nathan Walker (47:42) (PB), Dominic Parry (47:57), Laura Aiken (48:54) (PB), John Szubert (49:13), Sarah Wilson (57:05), Stephen Crowe (1:10:15), Peter Warr (1:11:01), Tracy Wroe (1:19:32) and Sara Parry (1:28:46).
There was also another race over at Rivington this week, with Paul Benson completing the scenic Rivington 10 Mile Trail Challenge in 1:41:57 and Laura Tracey in 1:43:48 across a mix of woodland, tracks and open countryside.
However, in an already phenomenal week of racing for the club, Khama Banda really stood out at the Wizz Air Milano Marathon. Finishing 200th out of a field of nearly 12,000 racers, Banda knocked over ten minutes off his previous incredible marathon PB with a time of just 2:47:35!
