Remembrance Sunday run for RAC

13 November 2023 (by D.Cartwright)

A large contingent of Radcliffe AC members took part in the annual Remembrance Sunday Windmill 10k.

Conditions were cold, windy and rainy for the popular event which started and finished close to the windmill in Lytham St Annes.

A two-minute silence was held before the race, the penultimate event of the club’s road and trail championship, and runners then set off along the breezy seafront.

Mark Williams led home the Radcliffe runners in 43:27 followed by Mark Taylor (44:00), Mark Garner (44:05), Mia Derbyshire (45:30), Adam Wills (45:51), Charlene Leyden (49:00) and Dominic Parry (49:02).

Sheila Jones won the VW65 age group in 49:11 and other results were: Karen Doherty (54:01), Charlotte Holden (56:20), Kath Davies (56:34), Emma Wolstencroft (57:30), Alison Howarth (58:05), Elaine Bailey (58:36), Stephen Crowe (59:48), Lucy Tetler (59:59), Tracy Wroe (1:02:39), Helen Kay (1:05:26), Kevin Dewhurst (1:07:26), Sara Parry (1:15:44) and Zoe Dewhurst (1:20:42).

There were lots of ups and downs – and that wasn’t just the rollercoasters - when a theme park was the destination for two RAC athletes. Simon Foulkes and Ian Swan ran together in wet conditions at the very hilly Alton Towers Half Marathon, finishing in 1:38:01 and 1:38:10 respectively.

Meanwhile, Katherine Biddle was also in action over a longer distance, completing the picturesque Swinsty and Fewston 20-mile trail race in the Yorkshire Dales in 3:32:21.

A trio of Radcliffe runners enjoyed bright conditions when they headed to Wythenshawe Park on Saturday for the second fixture in the Manchester Area Cross Country League. Mia Derbyshire completed the flat but muddy 7.6k course in 42:06. Karen Doherty ran 47:17 and Louise Shield clocked 56:20.

The Saturday morning 5k parkruns once again proved popular with Radcliffe athletes.

Junior Robbie Parkinson led home the club’s contingent at Heaton Park in 21:53. Also running were Mark Taylor (22:21), Sheila Jones (first WV65 23:32), Dominic Parry (24:17), Katherine Biddle (28:12), Lucie Tighe (29:09), Sheila McNulty (first WV75 33:30), junior Skyler Parry (37:09) and Sara Parry (39:23).

Kath Davies was first WV60 in 30:29 at Clarence parkrun and results from elsewhere were: Croxteth Hall – Helen Kay (31:17) and Bev Quinton (40:49); Worsley Woods - Neil Greenhalgh (32:14), junior Oliver Swan (32:13) and his dad Ian Swan (32:14), Tracy Wroe (33:44); Wythenshawe – Stephen Crowe (30:33).
