Veteran Radcliffe Athletic Club member Sheila Jones won her age group at Sunday’s Great Manchester Run Half Marathon for the second year in a row.

Jones clocked a time of 1:49:27 to clinch first WV65. She shaved 21 seconds off her time last year, on a course which started in Portland Street before heading out to the Etihad Stadium and finishing back in the city centre.

Also lining up on 13.1-mile start line was Christopher Saville who ran 2:01:56.

Twelve club representatives joined the thousands of runners taking part in Sunday’s Great Manchester Run 10k.

Vicky O’Brien ran 56:16; Elaine Bailey 59:39; Stephen Crowe 1:01:58; Craig Ward 1:03:36; Jackie Faith 1:04:45 personal best; Jen Entwistle 1:08:54; Natalie Hitchen 1:08:57; Cheryl Gallagher 1:09:42; Tracy Wroe 1:10:07; Bev Quinton 1:13:45; Kelly Gallagher 1:13:46, and Iain Harris 2:22:18.

Radcliffe runners were out in force at the midweek Blackstone Edge Fell Race, part of the Run the Moors Grand Prix which is contested by local clubs.

They had fine weather for the 3.5-mile course with 1,200ft of ascent above Littleborough, which is packed with a tough climb to the trig point, a rocky ridge and a fast descent over grassy tussocks.

Among the men, Craig Norman was a fantastic 26th in 37:12, six places ahead of John Gibbs in 38:16. Next to cross the line was Neil Greenhalgh who clocked 42:33, followed by Lee Turner in 45:29, Ian Swan in 45:37, John Mcnicoll in 52:57 and in Peter Warr (62:47).

Mia Derbyshire ran 46:55 to lead the ladies’ team to fourth place. Julie Robertson ran 48:19 and Karen Doherty 55:52.

David Bartlett took part in the first race of the Jubilee Race Series in Horwich. He ran 50:38 on the 5.4-mile course, the first of a trio of races on the scenic route around Rivington.

The club was out in force at Heaton Park to help Bev Quinton celebrate her 100th parkrun.

She marked her milestone with Prosecco and a time of 36:41. Joining her were: Rob Shiels (19:09), Steven Fawcett (20:49), junior Robbie Parkinson (24:05), Stephen Crowe (29:27), Tracy Wroe (33:33), Emma Wolstencroft (33:34), Deborah Warrington (33:34), Elaine Bailey (33:34), Caroline Malone (33:35) and Iain Harris (37:43).

Results from other parkruns: Bolton – Kris Booth (25:10) and Andy Wheeler (walking 50:20); Burnage – Sheila Jones 23:34; Chadderton Hall – Chris Paxton (3rd in 22:06), Peter Hunter (24:06) and Ian Swan (24:27); Preston – Rob Lister (31:27).
