Mark warms up with winter half marathon

Mark Garner blew away the New Year cobwebs with a chilly half marathon.

The Radcliffe Athletic Club member clocked 1:48:20 at Sunday’s Central Lancs New Year Half Marathon, finishing 169th out of 414 runners.

The popular race starts and finishes in Lea Town, near Preston, and takes runners through picturesque countryside and villages.

Lucy Tetler also enjoyed lovely scenery at the Hit The Trail 5 Mile Race. She ran 51:30 on the course around Reddish Vale and the Tiviot Way in Stockport.

The pair were also among the Radcliffe members who took part in a variety of 5k parkruns on Saturday morning,

The largest contingent was at Heaton Park where Mark Taylor ran 22:38 followed by junior Robbie Parkinson in 23:35. Rob Shiels clocked 23:36 and Sheila Jones was first VW65 in 24:19.

The next RAC finisher was Ethan Malone in 25:32, and also running were Charlotte Holden (27:36), Peter Warr (30:39), Charles Whalley (49:36) and Mark Garner (54:19).

Kath Davies was the club’s first finisher at Bolton parkrun in 29:38 followed by Mark Williams (30:46), Elaine Bailey (34:57) and Natalie Hitchen (40:56).

Mia Derbyshire was the second female in a time of 25:05 at Fort William parkrun in Scotland. Meanwhile, it was a family affair at Stretford parkrun where junior Skyler Parry ran 30:47 with dad Dominic. Her mum finished in 40:38.

Helen Kay completed Worden parkrun in 37:03, despite losing a shoe in thick mud, while Katherine Biddle finished in 28:25.

Results from other parkruns were: Blackpool – Stephen Crowe (33:35); Oakwell Hall - Bev Quinton (53:09); South Manchester – Lucy Tetler (54:38); Worsley Woods – Alison Howarth (27:39) and Tracy Wroe (36:11).
