Oliver Swan is RAC junior of the year

Oliver Swan has been named as Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Junior of the Year.

The 12-year-old received his award from Peter Warr, head of the junior section, and Louise Shield who helps to coach the juniors.

The presentation took place during the club’s annual festive run which visits the Radcliffe streets with the best Christmas lights.

Oliver has competed in the Red Rose Cross Country league this year and is also a regular at the Saturday morning 5k parkruns and the Sunday morning Burrs Community Run in Bury.

Peter said: “What a star Oliver is. He is always at club nights, bringing energy and enthusiasm. He has got stuck into cross country, completed other races during the year, done parkruns and Burrs, and is getting better and better all the time.”

Senior Annette McQueen got an early Christmas present when she was the second woman at the Big Feat X-MasTrail Marathon, bagging a new personal best as well.

The event started and finished at Sale Water Park and took in Chorlton Water Park, the Trans Pennine and the Bridgewater Canal.

Annette ran a super 3:44:02, coming 15th out of 163 finishers, and said: “Conditions were great on the day for me to come away with a pb.

“I really enjoyed the trails and it was a great event with lots of Christmas vibes from the runners and volunteers. A lot were in festive gear and it ended nicely with mince pies and mulled wine.”

RAC members were out in force as Neil Naisbitt completed his 100th parkrun on Saturday, clocking 23:23 at Heaton Park. Gary Adkins was 13th in 18:02 and also running were Rob Shiels (20:12), Donna Cartwright (21:28), Marc Taylor (21:56), Mark Taylor (22:16), junior Robbie Parkinson (22:23), Mark Garner (23:17), Sheila Jones (24:32), Paula Abernethy (26:20), Ethan Malone (26:46), Alison Howarth (27:54), Charlotte Holden (28:37) and Karen Wells (29:28).

James Higginson was second at Braunstone parkrun in 19.17, and results from elsewhere were: Bolton - Chemane Golding (29:06), Kathryn Davies (30:18), Julie Robertson (30:20), Steven Lomax (31:13), Mark Williams (35:15); Burnley – Elaine Bailey (31:12) and Bev Quinton (41:11); Lytham Hall – Stephen Crowe – 30:30; Oakwell Hall – Katherine Biddle (29:11); Peel – Mike Kontowtt (24:59); Philips Park – Helen Kay (33:08); Winchester – Ian Swan (20:54) and junior Oliver Swan (32:26);Worsley Woods – Tracy Wroe (34:30).

Some members also took part in the bonus Christmas Day parkruns. Mark Taylor ran 22:18 at Heaton Park followed by Mark Garner (22:38) and Stephen Crowe (28:56). Other Christmas Day results: Bolton - Katherine Biddle (30:14) and Elaine Bailey (33:15); Southport – Helen Kay (31:15); Winchester - junior Oliver Swan (34:54) and dad Ian (34:55).
