Our Club

Welcome to Radcliffe Athletic Club!

We are proud to have been established for 40 years, training, supporting and encouraging runners of all abilities.

At our club you are guaranteed a warm welcome, plenty of support and the opportunity to make friends with like-minded people.

The club is based at Bury Livingwaters Church (Close Methodist), Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, M26 2GB. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7pm-8.30pm.

There is a choice of training sessions, from beginners through to competition racing.

On Mondays there is normally a 5/6.5km run and two 10km runs, based on ability and choice, for adults (age 16 and over). Each group has a run leader to oversee the session and provide support.

On Wednesdays we alternate between a hill session, which leaves from the club, and a track session at Bury Track, Market Street, Bury, BL9 9FX

There are also strength and conditioning sessions at the club at 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Our juniors (ages eight to 16) meet at the club at 7pm on Mondays.

Radcliffe AC’s Oliver Swan raises funds for International Changemakers at Heaton Park

This Sunday, Oliver Swan took on his first 10k at the RunThrough Heaton Park 10k, a very hilly course round the park, which he smashed in a brilliant time of 56:39. Oliver has been raising sponsorship for this race for International Changemakers, with whom Oliver will be volunteering in Thailand. Well done Oliver! 

Khama Banda was also at Heaton Park, winning the 5k event in just 17:54. 

Meanwhile, new member Phil Booth was the sixth finisher in a speedy time of 1:37:37 over at the Sir Titus March Mayhem Half Marathon, a trail race on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal. 

For her first race as a Junior, Grace braved challenging weather conditions and steep climbs in the U10 distance at the Pendle Hill Junior Fell Race, finishing in 6:17. She was also joined by her brother Benjamin who ran the U12 distance in 8:52. 

Mark Taylor hit the 4.5-mile Pendle Hill Fell Race with 1499 feet of difficult climbs, covering the challenging course in 1:01:20. 

Paul Stevens battled near sideways rain and 40mph winds at the Llandudno Half Marathon, completing the course in 1:53:28. 

Alex Field was at the Generali Berlin Half Marathon this weekend, rocketing round the capital in only 1:39:11. 

Members also joined Ethan Malone and Charlotte Holden who both finished in 29:11 to celebrate Charlotte’s 100th parkrun (and the couple’s last pre-wedding parkrun) at Peel. Junior Lexi also kept up her PB streak at the same event in 21:58! Two from Radcliffe AC Run the Runway in Doncaster

Junior Indie headed to Worsley Woods parkrun this Saturday, smashing a PB of 23:52.
 
Chris Mihalyi rattled out 10 challenging miles in Saddleworth over at the Dan Lee Mil Race in honour of former Royal Marine and Firefighter Dan Lee in just 1:27:56, before heading back to Bury to support his teammates at the Link Challenge.
 
Ran by Mark Garner, Laura Tracey, Phil Hopkins, Charlene Leyden, Dominic Parry, Mark Taylor, Chemane Thomas, Laura Aiken, Lisa Antrobus, Lucie Tighe and Amanda Callan, the Link Challenge is an endurance event held by the Sunnywood Project. Setting off and finishing at Burrs Country Park, this 21 mile route connects all of Bury’s historical villages and is mainly on trail path through the villages of Nangreaves, Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Ainsworth and Greenmount.
 
Two members continued their regular race travels, this time heading to Doncaster for ‘Run the Runway’, a 5.8k race round Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Completing the total distance of this busy race in 22:40, Daniel Hunt also snuck in a 5k PB of 21 minutes, with John Szubert finishing the course in an also brilliant 25:32.
 
Sheila Jones was first in her age category (FV70) in 2:06:45 at the Conniston 14. Described as the most beautiful road race in Britain, Karen Doherty also took on this hilly 14 mile route, finishing in 2:14:10.
 
Khama Banda was somehow even faster than usual this week, achieving an exceptionally impressive PB of 34:19 at the Pulford 10k.
 
Three also hit the Wilmslow Festival of Running Half Marathon, with Ken Smith returning to racing for the first time this year with a brilliant time of 2:20:05, also joined by Natalie Hitchen and Mark Williams (both 2:44:47).
 
Tracy Wroe ran the Holly Prince 10 Miler in a time of 2:14:07. This race in Astley raises funds for Holly’s Hearts, a charity created by the parents of Holly Prince from Wigan who sadly died from cancer in April 2022 aged just 5 years old.
 
Lisa Riley was out enjoying the day’s sunshine at Smithy’s 5 Mile Trail Run, another race raising money for an excellent charity, Bolton Hospice, completing this undulating race in 1:01:31.
 
 
 
 
Radcliffe AC members fly the coop to the Peak District

This Saturday saw the sun shining for the first fixture in the Run The Moors fell racing championship, the Chicken Run. This 13.9km race boasted an arduous 500m of climb through Hayfield in the Peak District, raising funds for Hayfield Primary School.  

  

Ian Swan covered the tricky terrain in only 1:17:52 along with Chris Mihalyi 1:22:48, Neil Greenhalgh 1:25:59, Mark Taylor 1:33:31, Lucie Tighe 1:38:22, Paul Stevens 1:44:34, Chemane Thomas 1:45:14 and Karen Doherty 1:55:11.   

  

On the same day, Dominic Parry took part in the first of four CraggRunner Sprint 5k series, blasting round the course in 22:43.  

 

Four junior members also attended the event, with Indie the first female in the U10 1k - 3:41 and Thomas - 4:43, Skyler in the U12 2k - 11:51, and Lexi in the U14 3k taking third place female in 12:43.  

  

Over at the Trotters 5 Mile Community Trail Run on Sunday, Paul Stevens and Karen Doherty pulled a double weekend of racing, joining a fantastic turnout of 21 other members to hit the undulating trails and paths of Smithills Country Park. Neil Swithenbank was back first in an impressive time of 36:18, followed by Mark Williams 37:47 (1st MV60), Mike Kontowtt 39:42, Daniel Hunt 40:23, Rob Hall 41:22, Cameron Sharples 43:34, Paula Abernethy 43:49, Paul Stevens 44:02, Dominic Parry 46:41, John Szubert 47:35, Lisa Antrobus 48:18, Laura Aiken 48:29, Karen Doherty 50:38, Katherine Swithenbank 52:08, Cath Jones 53:04, Peter Warr 54:24, Elaine Bailey 55:39, Lisa Riley 56:46, Eileen Sharman 57:03, Helen Kay 1:01:09, Tracy Wroe 1:01:09, Sara Parry 1:10:22 and Bev Quinton 1:12:36.   

 

The awards presentation took place for the 2025 Central Lancashire Grand Prix following the race, an inter club championship of 12 running clubs in the North West. Three picked up prizes for Radcliffe, with Lucie Tighe taking 2nd FV35, Mike Kontowtt 2nd MV60 and Andy Wheeler 2nd MV65.  

 

There were also prizes for members who competed in 10-12 races, with Andy Wheeler and Ethan Malone having completed 12, Mark Garner and Sara Parry 11, and Dominic Parry 10.  

  

The weekend also included the inaugural ‘Secret 20 Miler’, a flat course along Cheshire Country Lanes. Steven Fawcett rocketed out the miles in 2:16:55 with Kath Biddle completing  the course in a fantastic 3:23:12.   

 

Finally, finishing off a jam packed weekend of racing, Sheila Jones yet again took home first FV70, this time over at the Trimpell 20 miler through historic Lancaster and the stunning Lune Valley countryside, finishing in 3:01:49.
