Jones impresses in Cheshire
It was a winning return to racing for Radcliffe AC’s Sheila Jones at the Cheshire 10k.
She was first Vet-65 in a personal best of 46:29, in what is one of the fastest 10ks in the UK.
The race starts and finishes at Arley Hall and is run on traffic-free roads.
It was Jones’s first race as a Vet-65 and, with most races cancelled due to coronavirus, she said: “It was really well organised. We had to start off in two by two waves so the start took a long time to get everyone across the line, but we were well spaced out and there were lots of marshals.
“Because the start was so well spaced it meant that the finish was too!”
Carl Willcock knocked an impressive 30 minutes off his personal best when he completed Coniston Trail Marathon in 4:57:19.
He said: “The first 20 miles were OK, then there was a huge hill at the start of the last six miles which killed me off!
“It was good to be able to race, though, and Lakeland Trails did an ace job of keeping it Covid safe with staggered start times.”
