January 2010 Round Up
A quick round up of those racing in January 2010
RADCLIFFE AC had 20 runners on the fells on Sunday (31st January) when they took part in the annual Pennine Bridleway Relay.
Covering 47 miles, with 6,300 feet of climbing the club had enough runners to put in two mixed teams with one team finishing eighth mixed team and 42th overall out of 85 finishing teams.
The relay takes place around the Mary Towneley(correct) Loop of the bridleway which crosses the valleys between Rossendale, Burnley, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Rochdale and also crosses 13 fell race routes. It is divided into five legs with two runners on each section, and starts in Waterfoot.
Ice posed a problem on the early legs but a sunny winter day meant navigation was not a problem. Radcliffe has done well in the past in the mixed teams section and their eight place with Gary Wilson, Robin Shiels, Anna Lupton, Neil Kirby, Mark Cartwright, Rachael Ellison, Anne Marie Rampley, Yasmin Parapia, Kevin McGilvray and Donna Cartwright was a creditable performance in 6hrs 22mins 56secs. The second team was in 76th place but for a small club they did well to get 20 runners together for the teams.
