RADCLIFFE AC's Donna Cartwright had plenty to smile about after receiving a plaque and medal for top spot in the Run The Moors Grand Prix.
Cartwright was presented with her award by Stockport Harrier, former international and England mountain running manager Bashir Hussain at a presentation at Marl Pits Sports Centre in Rawtenstall.
The grand prix, organised by five clubs, Radcliffe, Rochdale, Middleton, Rossendale and Saddleworth, covered fell races throught the season and the best five performances out of seven counted towards the trophies.
Cartwright was top senior woman but she was not Radcliffe's only prizewinner. Anne Marie Rampley was second vet 40, George Critchley third vet 50 and Alan Sumner first vet 65. Veteran runner Hussain outlined his distinguished career in a short talk and runners enjoyed a pie and peas supper.
The following day Cartwright had more to smile about when she took third place out of 63 runners in the South East Lancs Cross Country League event at Clayton Vale. This now puts her in third overall after three races with one to go, and Radcliffe leading the women's teams. Paula Abernethy was 10th and second vet 40 and Kath Davies (V45) 32nd. Davies was followed home by Eileen Royle (V60), Rachel Armfield and Angela Bell (V40). The women were fourth team and third vet-40 team.
Among the men Adrian Harris was first home in 20th place out of 106 runners and took second vet-50 place. He was followed by Kevin McGilvray
(V50): David Abernethy (V40): Steve Hamer (V50): David Bartlett and George Critchley (V50). The men were second vet-50 team. Author - Sheila McNulty
