Anna Lupton 2009/2010

Anna Lupton's Acheivements 2009/2010

18/07/2010:
RADCLIFFE AC's Anna Lupton has been reaching for the sky and won herself a world title! Lupton was part of a British relay team in the Italian Alps who took on one of the most gruelling events in the calendar of skyrunning , running at altitude. The women's team of three, the Salomon Trail Team, was competing in the robie SkyRaid Race along the 84km of the Sentiero delle Orobie, a route which normally takes a trekker several days to complete. It incorporated the first ever SkyRaid World Championships and involved a marathon of 42km, another 30km race and a 12km event, which included scrambling and climbing. Lupton ran the marathon and the team finished all three events in just over 10 hours taking the world title. Globetrotting Lupton planned to set off earlier this week in her camper van for two weeks training in the Swiss Alps before returning home to take part in the trials in Llanberis, Wales, for the Second World Mountain Championships in Kamnik, Slovenia in September. The day after the trials she will be off to Colorado where she has been selected to run for England in the World Long Distance Mountain Race, the Pikes Peak Race, later next month.

RADCLIFFE AC's Anna Lupton has won a silver medal in the British Inter-Counties Fell Championships in Wales. Lupton, selected for Greater Manchester, was eighth woman home in sweltering conditions in Saturday's tough nine mile Lletty Fell Race in LLangynhafal, Denbighshire. Taking in 2,900 feet of climbing 56 women competed and along with two other Greater Manchester runners Lupton secured second team place and her medal. The event was part of the McCain UK Mountain Challenge and its four races incorporate the European and World Trial Races at Keswick in the Lake District and LLanberis, Wales in June and August. Lupton is planning to run both. She has already been selected to run for her country in the World Long Distance Mountain Race in Colorado in August after she recently won the 24-mile Three Peaks Fell Race for the second year running. Her partner John Brown, who runs for Salford Harriers, was part of the Greater Manchester men's team which also won a silver medal for second team place.

RADCLIFFE AC's Anna Lupton has won the prestigious Three Peaks Fell Race for the second year running and has qualified to represent her country in America. In perfect conditions on Saturday 31-year-old Lupton stormed home in the 24-mile event in 3hrs 30mins 42secs, seven minutes ahead of her nearest rival, and six minutes faster than last year's time. Not only was she first woman but came a superb 22nd overall out of more than 600 runners. Her success means she automatically qualifies to represent England in the World Long Distance Mountain Race, the Pikes Peak Race in Colorado in August. Last October she was selected to run in Austria and was the highest placed woman for her country. The tough North Yorkshire Three Peaks always draws a large top class field and covers 4,500 feet of climbing, going over Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. A thrilled Lupton said: " I am really pleased. I took it easier at the beginning and then increased the pace when I reached the climbs. My aim is now the Inter Counties Fell Championships later in May." Lupton's boyfriend John Brown, who runs for Salford Harriers, was second in the event.
Anna raced in the Kaiser Marathon on Saturday 10th October 2009 representing GB. She was 9th lady and first home in the GB ladies team! Well Done

Anna Lupton finished as 2nd W30 and 5th lady over all, winning 80 EUROS. We spent a lot of time with Anna, she is a lovely lass. We fed her up and got her drunk, took her on a day out and generally giave her some English speaking company. Poor lass doesn't even have an Ipod to entertain herself. She was 3 min/mile faster than me in the race !! (webmaster's note: Anna Frost who won 1st female has often taken part in the Duathlon I organise in Wales - and wins of course!)

Message from Anna - 10th August 2009 - "I hope I can continue to improve while I'm out here in the Alps. Raced Sierre Zinal yesterday, 30k with 2000 metres of climb, blimey I feel like death warmed up today! But was really pleased to come 6th female - 11 mins behind Angela Mudge. Hi to everyone at the club, hope everyone there are doing well."
RADCLIFFE AC fell runner Anna Lupton has been selected to represent England in the 6th World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Challenge in Austria.  Lupton will take part in the 42km event in October but flew out to Geneva on Friday to take on some traning races.  She was travelling to Montreux, Switzerland for her first event on Sunday,a 20k uphill race, then she will enjoy a week's cycling before being joined by boyfriend John Brown for three weeks. John, from Salford Harriers has taken part in many mountain races abroad.  Lupton's next race will be a 30k classic in Sierre Zinal, Switzerland, followed by some shorter events before the world long distance challenge on October 10. The event, the Tour de Tyrol- Kaisermarathon, starts from the village of Soll and climbs 1,700m, finishing at the top of the Hohe Salve. She is one of three women selected to represent England.  But Lupton is no stranger to mountain running in Britain or abroad. Last year she packed in her job and spent six months cycling in Europe and took in mountain races in Austria and Switzerland while she was there, and recently she was the first woman in the prestigious Three Peaks Fell Race in Yorkshire (see below).
