The NOEAA cc championships at Heaton park Sat 27th Jan 2007. A big thank you to all who turned up on Saturday, not only the runners but also Brian, Billy and David who stood for almost five hours marshalling on the home straight. Thanks also to Terry (Club President) and Jim, who stood on top of the biggest hill shouting the runners on. The ladies were first on the start, 274 of them. Donna said she would be pleased to be in the first 100 so her 74th place was very pleasing; we are still waiting to hear if she has been selected to run for the county. Fingers crossed, eh? Next home for the ladies was Sarah in 127th place. It would be good to see her more often on the cross country scene than we have. Yasmin was next in a good sprint finish for 207th place. Her mum and dad were there to cheer her on and she didn’t let them down. Paula was next. She had a very pleasing run and found the course much easier than last year at Witton Park (232nd). Denise was next; having raced round on her postal delivery to get to the park on time, most of us wouldn’t even bother to turn up after work let alone race, so well done (262nd) New girl Charlotte brought the ladies home and it was her first ever cross country, so well done 269th with the ladies team coming 27th. Eddy was next on the line in the Under 13 year olds. He was up against some lads who were bigger in stature and would have no trouble getting served in a pub! So his 108th place was a good effort. The men were next 651, all trying to get to the first turn, quite an impressive sight. Adrian was first for the club and has been very consistent with his running (320th). Shaun was next (469th) looking so relaxed all the way round, but his soaked vest proved he actually got a sweat on. Peter crossed the line in 513th place. I actually heard him say that he loves cross country and as Terry would say, he must be stupid! Robin and Vince were next in both very close to each other, so pushed each other round 569th and 578th respectively, Robin finally winning the battle on the last uphill. Kevin was the anchor for the men’s team crossing the line in 599th. It also was his first ever cross country so to have to finish and not to pull out to make a men’s finishing team, he deserves a very well done. Author:- Jim Sutcliffe
