Fingers Crossed And Toes
On Saturday the 8th of December the Greater Manchester cross country championships
were held at Chesam Park in Bury. The club had four runners competing and didn’t
they do well! First on the line was young Eddy Kirby who hadn’t been well all week,
but still turned up to run. Eddy ran 3000 meters, a distance he had not run competitively
all season, and still managed 15th place. Well done Eddy. Next on the line, for the ladies,
Donna and Yasmin were running 5 laps of the very muddy park (8000 meters). Donna soon
settled into the race and maintained her position all the way round, finishing in 6th
place and now is more or less guaranteed a place in the county team, competing in
Nottingham in the New Year. Well done Donna, you deserve it! Next in was Yasmin
(do you think I can do this?) Well yes you can and you did brilliant. Well done Yasmin!
The only man from the club was Simon and he, Donna and Yasmin showed how much of an
influence Terry Nortley has been as a coach in their training. Simon hared off from
the gun and he didn’t falter on any of the seven (yes seven!) laps covering 12000 meters
and came home in seventh place. Well done Simon! He too could well be running for the county.
Fingers crossed and toes.
Just to round the day off, Terry Nortleys god daughter won her race
in the u20 ladies. WELL DONE TO ALL!
