Race Report 30/12/19
Radcliffe AC’s Jenny Yates rounded off the year on a high when she was among the prize winners at the Ribble Valley 10k in Clitheroe.
Her gun time of 44:33 saw her claim third Vet-50, though her chip time of 43:22 was actually the second fastest in her age category.
The race, which incorporated the Northern 10k Road Championships, attracted a field of 1,300 including top-class athletes.
Robert Short led home the contingent of 11 Radcliffe runners in 42:30. He was just a second ahead of Katie Percival who was the 50th woman in 42:31.
Dave Rushton ran 43:57; Paula Abernethy 45:07; Caroline Malone 55:32; Tracy Wroe 1:00:08; Sarah Rushton 1:00:57; Lucy Dewhurst 1:05:36; Sarah Oxley 1:05:37; and Bev Quinton 1:12:41. The women’s team was ninth.
Sarah Rushton got Christmas Day off to a cracking start when she notched up her 50th Parkrun – all run at Leverhulme Park in Bolton – and clocked 34:35.
She was among several members who laced up their running shoes to complete parkruns on December 25.
Also in action at Bolton parkrun were Robert Short who was 32nd in 22:23; Katie Percival was fourth woman in 23:08; Mark Williams ran 24:20; Mark Garner 24:21; Rob Lister 25:14; Mark Wolfenden 26:03; Elaine Bailey 29:34; Vince Ashton 30:35; Lucy Tetler 33:41 and Sarah Oxley 34:37.
Five were at Worsley Woods parkrun on Christmas morning where Steven Fawcett ran 20:39; Jenny Yates a personal best of 21:54; Nick Barnes 25:00; Craig Ward 25:52; Deborah Cliff 32:43 and Bev Quinton 34:50.
Sheila Jones was first Vet-60 in 24:35 at Oldham Parkrun.
Lisa Carter knocked two minutes off her personal best – and won a prize for her fancy dress – when she ran the traditional Boxing Day Whinberry Naze Dash Fell Race in Rawtenstall.
She completed the four miles with 751ft of climbing in 37:23 dressed as Batman character Harley Quinn, claiming fourth Vet-45.
In the regular Saturday parkruns, Debi Warrington celebrated her birthday with prosecco and a time of 32:06 at Heaton parkrun.
She was joined by Amanda Callan who ran 24:38; Sarah Scott 24:42; junior Olivia Whittaker 26:42; Katie Davies a 29:09 pb; Lucy Tetler 30:38; Deborah Barrington 32:01; Tracy Wroe 32:55; Bev Quinton 35:44 and Iain Harris 35:45.
At Bolton parkrun, Dave Rushton clocked 26:56; Steven Lomax 28:20; Natalie Hitchen 38:58; Sarah Oxley 40:04 and Christine Berry 43:52.
Two were in action at Keswick parkrun where Sheila Jones was again first Vet-60 in a pb of 24:01 and Karen Doherty clocked 29:33.
