Race Report 25/11/2019
Radcliffe AC members posted great cross country performances in the mud at Heaton Park.
Donna Cartwright ran 31:44 to finish fourth out of 105 ladies, and Junior Olivia Whittaker came a great 12th in 7:26 in the under-11 girls’ race.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Alex Pullan was the first under-18 in the senior men’s race.
Saturday’s fixture was the second of four in the South East Lancashire Cross Country League.
Among the women, Hayley Winder ran 36:59; Louise Shield 43:45; Gail Champion 45:18; Katie Davies 46:04; Karen Doherty 46:23, and Tracy Wroe 46:41.
Ian Warrington was 15th out of 172 runners in 39:08 in the men’s race. Craig Norman ran 41:20; Mark Williams 45:14; Mark Enright 53:33 and David Schofield 1:04:01.
The woman’s team was eighth and the men’s team was ninth.
Two of the runners were back in action the day after when Radcliffe had two teams of four at the challenging Lee Mill Fell Relay in Rossendale.
Each runner completed a 10.7k leg with Dave McGrath clocking 54:30, John Wrigley 1:00:32, Ian Warrington 58:28 and Craig Norman 1:02:30, with the team finishing 18th out of 88 teams in 3:56:00.
Dave Rushton (1:04:54), Andy Haines (1:05:24) John Andrews (1:15:04) and Scott Baxter (1:18:46) were the 65th team in 4:44:08.
Ten runners got into the Christmas spirit early at the Wilmslow Festive 10k – with some even wearing fancy dress to take on the flat and fast scenic route.
Steven Birtwistle was first home for the club in 41:09 followed by Steven Fawcett who knocked more than a minute and a half off his personal best in 42:02.
Jenny Yates was fourth vet-50 in a new pb of 42:10 while Mauro Rotondi ran 48:35; Caroline Mullineaux 49:16; Craig Ward 52:24; Caroline Malone 53:24; Lucy Dewhurst 58:40; Lisa Donnelly 1:08:15, and Christine Berry 1:20:02.
Two members were at the City of Salford 5.25-mile Women’s Race, with Sheila Jones running 42:02 and Tracy Wroe finishing in 43:54 the day after she had run cross country.
Lisa Carter headed to the Peak District hills to race in the Mini Mountain Marathon series.
Starting and finishing at Greenfield, runners had four hours to collect points by visiting as many control points as possible – with those further away and more difficult to reach worth more points.
In the popular parkruns, Michael Scott ran his first sub-30 minute parkrun when he clocked 29:04 at Heaton Park. Also at Heaton Park, Christopher Whittaker was 13th in 19:31 and Sheila Jones was first Vet-60 in 23:56.
At Leverhulme parkrun, Katie Percival was third woman in 23:49, while Rob Lister ran 24:02, Paul Barrington 28:20 and Deborah Barrington 28:.
