Race report 13/9/21
Three Radcliffe Athletic Club members were among the tens of thousands of people who took part in the iconic Great North Run.
In a busy weekend of racing for the club, Elaine Bailey finished the world’s largest half marathon in 2:12:58. Craig Ward clocked 2:18:10 and Bev Quinton ran 2:44:14.
Six Radcliffe runners were in action at the Wilmslow Festival of Running.
There were superb wins for Jenny Yates and Sheila Jones in humid conditions at the Wilmslow Half Marathon. Yates was first F55 in a vet PB of 1:38:43 and Sheila Jones was first F65 in 1:49:37.
Meanwhile, Richard Bellis ran a 41:25 PB to finish 27th out of a field of 350 in the Wilmslow 10k. Deborah Warrington clocked 1:00:06, and Sarah Rushton and Natalie Hitchen both ran 1:03:32.
Kath Davies took to the fells and trails for the challenging Yorkshireman Off Road Marathon. The tough course in the South Pennine moors has around 3,300 feet of climbing from Howarth, and Davies finished in 7:00:24.
Rob Shiels was 16th overall and second M45 in 3:05:25 at the Blackpool Festival Marathon while Jen Entwistle achieved a new PB of 2:10:10 in the festival’s half marathon. Rob Lister ran 1:36:30 at Torbay Half Marathon.
Four members took part in the Ron Hill Memorial Rivington Pike Fell Race, taking on the short and sharp climb from Horwich to the pike and back.
Alex Pullan completed the 3.3-mile course with 800ft of ascent in 25:40 – his last race in yellow and black before he starts university. Lee Turner ran 28:34, Mark Wolfenden 33.25 and Karen Doherty 36:26.
Ian Swan was 21st in 54:07 at the Yarrow River Splash Trail 10k which, as the name suggests, includes a river crossing.
Radcliffe members also took part in the popular 5k parkruns.
At Bolton, Mark Williams ran 26:41, Steve Hamer 26:42 and Jen Entwistle 34:25; Tracy Wroe and Iain Harris clocked 32:56 and 39:06 respectively at Worsley Woods, and Rob Lister finished in 20:36 at Torbay Velopark.
