Race report 11/10/21
Several Radcliffe AC athletes were among the tens of thousands of runners who took part in the Manchester Marathon.
Neal Emmerson clocked 2:37:05 to finish a superb 26th, just a week after winning the Rochdale Half Marathon.
Also completing the 26.2-mile course through Manchester and Trafford was Gary Adkins who ran 2:59:10, Mia Derbyshire 3:31:40, Julie Robertson 3:54:38, Sheila Jones 4:02:23, Peter Hunter 4:15:41 and Fay Davies 4:21:38.
Neil Greenhalgh clocked 3:57:48 acting as a guide runner for a visually impaired athlete.
Bev Quinton, Tracy Wroe and Stephen Crowe also completed the marathon as a team with Jan Crompton from Ramsbottom Running Club. Completing a leg each, they finished in 4:44:47.
Away from the marathon, Gail Champion battled driving rain, 30mph winds and lots of hills at the Abersoch 10k in North Wales – her first race in 18 months.
Several Radcliffe runners also took part in the popular 5k parkruns. At Bolton, Mark Williams ran 25:24, Mark Wolfenden 30:06, Elaine Bailey 30:30 and Jen Entwistle 37:47.
At Heaton Park, Peter Hunter ran 34:45, Tracy Wroe 35:25, Bev Quinton 39:38 and Iain Harris 39:39, while Caroline Malone ran 27:48 at Peel parkrun in Salford.
Further afield, Rob Shiels was 7th in 19:16 at Penrose parkrun in Cornwall; Alex Pullan was 19th at Kingston parkrun next to the River Thames in 20:21, and Karen Doherty clocked 29:16 at Stratford-upon-Avon.
