KATH Davies received her rewards for a good running season at the Radcliffe AC presentation night.
Kath (V45) took three of the major trophies and was second in her age group in fells and cross country racing. At the prize night at Play Football in Market Street, Bury on Friday, she took the trophy for most improved female runner and the VLA Events “My knees won’t last that long” award for the highest number of races run on fell, road and in cross country after competing in 16 throughout the season. She was also awarded the Terry Nortley Cup for her performances, a cup which carries the name of the club’s former president who died in November 2011.
New club president Tom West and chairman Mark Emmett presented the prizes and in the major trophies overall cross country champion among the women was Donna Cartwright, in great form, while Stu Sharp took the prize among the men, getting back to his form after injury.
Alongside Kath Steve Lomax was the most improved male runner of the year and the VLA Events “My knees won’t last that long” award among the men went to Mark Murphy who had competed in 17 events. Vet-60 John Kirham, who has an an excellent end to his season, was awarded the Radcliffe Athletic Club Trophy. The Nellie Halstead Cup, named after the Radcliffe Olympian of the 1930s, went to secretary Eileen Royle for her work for the club and the Norman Schofield Memorial Trophy went to the club’s social organiser Les Elkins for his contributions despite not having run himself for many years.
Les had organised the presentation evening.
Other awards included: Ann Marie McGilvray 1st V-45 on the fells and in cross country: Sheila Jones 1st V-55 on the road: Eileen Sharman 1st
V-55 cross country and Eileen Royle 1st V-60 on the road. Among the men Steve Lomax was first senior man on the road and second in cross
country: Mark Murphy 1st V-40 on the fells and in cross country: Mark Williams 1st V45 in cross country with Don Whiley in second place:
George Critchley was 1st V-50 on the fells and in cross country: Mark Emmett 1st V-50 on the road: Kevin McGilvray 1st vet-55 in fell and cross country and John Kirkham 1st vet-60 on the road.
Hot food, a raffle and a disco followed the presentation.
