Key Dates for June/July
First up please note that the Bull Hill race on the 11thJuly has had to be cancelled.
This means that the next championship race will be the RTM Ingleborough Fell race on Saturday 21stJuly at 3pm. This looks like its pretty much an out and back course with 5.5km up followed by 5.5km down. RAC are currently second in both the mens and ladies RTM championship so it would be good to get a strong turnout for this race and keep the momentum going. For the forward thinkers below is a link to the route.
The only other championship race is the next CLGP which is on Tuesday 7thAugust. This is a pretty flat, local 1 mile race, so definitely open for everyone. I ran this race last year and everyone is placed in groups of around 10-15 runners with competitors of similar ability. The race has a good atmosphere and last year you got a free bottle of beer. Definitely worth pre-entering at the link below.
There are few non-championship races we’ve been asked to make you aware of which are listed below.
On Sunday July 15that 1pm Prestwich AC and Sedgley Tigers are hosting a 5k Tough Run further details here https://www.facebook.com/events/165054377677107/
The Rotary Club of Tywyn will be holding its 35th running of Race the Train® on Saturday 18th August, consisting of 4 multi terrain races from 3.5 – 14 miles and a small road race specifically for children under 9 years of age. For full details of the races and how to enter can be found on their website www.racethetrain.com. This is a different race to the Bury – Rawtenstall one.
Next up is a local special in honour of Andy O’Sullivan who has been putting on local races for 35 years, 660 of them! To celebrate this achievement there will be a 5k race on Sunday 19thAugust at 11.30 from the Cock & Magpie Pub, Cockhall Lane, Whitworth, Rochdale, OL12 8BJ. (A671 Burnley Rd). Entry is £7 and limited to 300. You can pre-enter online at https://bookitzone.com/andrew_o_sullivan/U52FFX
On Tuesday 25thSeptember 2018 Andems Races are putting on a special 5k race at Cowms Resevoir to celebrate Ron Hill’s 80thbirthday. Places for this one off event are limited and filling up fast so if you want to be a part of it make sure to get your entry booked soon. It is very likely that this event will be televised too. Details can be found here https://bookitzone.com/andrew_o_sullivan/cv2FFX
Finally for those of you looking for something a little different, Mad Bull events are putting on a series of 5 mile night races in November, December and January further details can be found at https://www.madbullevents.com/so/6MHQ8tvV?cid=56f59fdf-6f86-4c2b-bcc8-3f8ea0803bf5®ion=cc6fb425-c613-4db2-98da-211d33726ec4#/main
A copy of the latest championship for 2018 is below and you can also view it on the Radcliffe AC website here http://www.radcliffeac.org.uk/championships/
Currently David McGrath is leading the way, with Katie Percival leading the ladies race, however it’s early days and there are still plenty of races to go, so a lot can change and you still have time to mount a challenge. Remember it’s your best 10 races from CLGP and RTM along with the 4 XC and 5 wild cards that count to your overall score.
Over the last few months a lot new members have joined Radcliffe AC, please be sure to make them welcome. We’ve added a “New Member Information” page to help with your orientation. Take a look and let me know if there is anything else you think would be helpful to have on there.
Hopefully you will have all received your membership renewals over the past few weeks but if you haven’t please contact Chris Saville and he will endeavor to help you.
In other news….
First up, a massive thank you to everyone that helped out on Sunday with the hosting or our 5k and inaugural junior races. It was another fantastic event that could only be put on with your help and support, which as always is very much appreciated not only by us but also all the competitors that took part.
June was a very busy month with lots of you taking part in a vast array of different races along with a number of races in both the RTM and CLGP. RAC is currently in second place in both the mens and ladies RTM championship with a number of individuals also in strong positions in their respective categories. We are still awaiting a further update on the CLGP tables but strong turnouts at both the last 2 events should strengthen our position. Lets keep up the momentum as we enter the second half of both these championships.
For those of you that attended the Polar Heart Rate training event we ran in April or if you are interested in using your heart rate to improve your training we have arranged two options for you to find out your personal heart rate zones with two local universities. First up Bolton have agreed to run a session for us on 7thJuly at 9.30am, which Lisa Carter has very kindly arranged. This has been listed on FB so message Lisa if you want to attend. The cost is £100 and you will get a full lactate test and analysis along with a group discussion. Alternatively Salford have agreed to offer all RAC athletes a 10% discount off their lactate test making it £90 until 17thAugust 2018. If you want further information or to book a test contact Steve at Healthcare-ExerciseTesting@salford.ac.ukand he will arrange an appointment for you.
