Key Dates for April
Friday 13th April 7pm Radcliffe AC AGM. The AGM is open to all members and great way for you to not only find out what’s happening at the club but also to make sure your voice is heard. The meeting is held at St Mary’s Social Club Pine Street Radcliffe M26 2WQ (just round the corner from where the club meets).
Sunday 15th April – Radcliffe AC 10k, our very own 10k race around the trails of Radcliffe. We have over 170 people pre-entered and a revised route for runners as there are improvement works underway on the tow-path. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to marshal so far, if you are able to help and haven’t put your name down yet please let Ian Hopkinson know. We will have our usual cake sale for charity and this year we will be raising funds for Keswick Mountain Rescue for their efforts in getting Scott Baxter off the mountains safely a couple of months ago. So once more bakers and fakers skills will be required to supply goodies. Keep an eye out on FB for further details.
Wednesday 25th April – we have been chosen by Polar (the heart rate / sports watch company) for their Polar PB Running Tour so our evening training session will be led by an experienced running coach from “Running with us”. The session will begin with a 45-60 minute talk followed by a 45-60 minute training session led by the coach. The focus of the session is “How to be a better runner”.
Please also be aware that we have our 5k CLGP race on Sunday 1st July and also the Bull Hill fell race on 12th July, please keep these dates free if at all possible to help with making the events a huge success.
Congratulations to all the winners from the 2017 championship, you can see a full list of the winners on the website http://www.radcliffeac.org.uk/260318-update/
With only two club races completed the championship is already looking like it could be a competitive one. Currently David McGrath is leading the way closely followed by Chris Whittaker, with Jenny Yates leading the ladies race closely followed by Katie Percival, however it’s early days and there are plenty of races to go. Remember it’s your best 10 races from CLGP and RTM along with the 4 XC and 5 wild cards that count to your overall score.
A copy of the latest championship for 2018 is below and you can also view it on the Radcliffe AC website here http://www.radcliffeac.org.uk/championships/
There is only one championship race scheduled for April which is Wardle Skyline on Saturday 7th April at 2pm and is the next race in the RTM championship (after the cancelled Wolfs Pit), you can fund further details here http://www.rochdaleharriers.co.uk/wardle/wardle.htm
I know many of you have your own races planned during April with both Manchester and London marathons as well as Bolton 10k amongst the many races going on during a busy month.
Please note that the cancelled Wolfs Pit fell race has been replaced by Rochdale’s Knowl Hill fell race on 10th June for the RTM championship
Another date for your calendar is Tuesday 25th September 2018 when Andems Races are putting on a special 5k race at Cowms Resevoir to celebrate Ron Hill’s 80th birthday. Places for this one off event are limited and filling up fast so if you want to be a part of it make sure to get your entry booked soon. It is very likely that this event will be televised too. Details can be found here https://bookitzone.com/andrew_o_sullivan/cv2FFX
Over the last few months a lot new members have joined Radcliffe AC, please be sure to make them welcome. We’ve added a “New Member Information” page to help with your orientation. Take a look and let me know if there is anything else you think would be helpful to have on there.
It’s that time of year where membership renewals are due. You will shortly receive an email through the England Athletics portal with your renewal reminder. If you have any problems or haven’t received your renewal email by 30th April please contact Chris Saville and he will endeavor to help you.
In other news….
We had a really successful first race of the season with over 200 competitors taking part in our Terry Nortley 10 mile multi terrain run on a very chilly but sunny Sunday. Thanks to all who turned up to help, we received numerous plaudits for the great atmosphere, organisation and support from many runners.
We’ve been making some updates to the website to make it more useful so please take a look around and let us know if there is anything you think would be useful to have added to the site.
