RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright notched up two second places in races this week, one at the Holcombe Two Towers Fell Race and the other at the Chorley Great Hill Fell Race.
At Holcombe on Wednesday she covered the four miles and 1,300 feet of climbing in 43mins 40secs (2nd Female) and took her second place at Chorley on Sunday running the five miles and 1, 600 feet of climbing in 46mins 43secs. She was one of seven to run the Holcombe race and was followed home by husband Mark (V45) in 45mins 46secs: George Critchley (V50) in 47mins 39secs: John Kirkham (V60) in 50mins 38secs: Berin Jones (V40) in 53mins 27secs: Andy Wheeler (V55) in 62mins 33secs and Tom West (V70) in 71mins 52secs.
There was a good turnout on Wednesday night for the Three Sisters Country Park 5k Race with Stu Sharp in a fine 19th position out of 175 runners in 18mins 15secs. Next home was Rob Shiels, not far behind, in 39th position in 18mins 55secs. Rob Andrew was 64th in 20mins 10secs:Tony Holt (V50) 79th in 20mins 59secs: Steve Hamer (V50) 120th in 23mins 08secs: Mark Emmett (V50) 128th in 23mins 16secs and Ken Smith
(V55) 23mins 22secs. Sheila Jones was second vet 55 in 24mins 43secs, Eileen Royle first vet-60 in 25mins 30secs, Jim Rhodes second vet 70 in 28mins 02secs and Rebecca Chaplin ran 30mins 32secs.
Jim turned the clock back when he did a personal best of 27mins 18secs in the British Masters 5k at Horwich this weekend and was 10th vet 70 in the championships. Jim is now 73 years old!
John Scarlett and Michael Shroot took on the Freckleton Half Marathon on the Fylde Coast on Sunday, John clocking a creditable 1hr 44mins 11secs and Michael running 1hr 52mins 24secs.
Mark Murphy was the only club member to run the Two Lads Fell Race at Horwich on Thursday night. He was competing for the third time and in blustery conditions clocked 53mins 15secs on a course just over five miles with 900 feet of climbing.
