IT was a record breaker when 42 club runners took on the Central Lancs 5k at Leverhulme Park.
Chairman Chris Paxton, who had been encouraging members to support the event, said: “We have now set a new club record for the number of runners competing in an event. This is a very proud moment for me and hopefully a sign of things to come.” The steadily growing club presently has 98 members.
The 5k at Bolton on Sunday was the opening fixture of the Central Lancs Grand Prix which the club takes part in along with several other local clubs. Leading Radcliffe’s “Yellow Army” home was Neal Emmerson who was 17th out of 309 competing in 18mins 08secs. Not far behind in 21st place was Ian Warrington clocking 18mins 35secs and John Wrigley was 52nd running 19mins 45secs. Mark Williams (V50) was 56th in 19mins 52secs and two seconds behind was Chris in 19mins 54secs in 57th place.

Several members competed in two races and some in three over the weekend with an improving Chris leading the way among the Radcliffe men in the South East Lancs Cross Country League event at Astley Park, Chorley on Saturday. In the last race of the league series he clocked 41mins 12secs. Rob Lister ran 46mins 35secs: John Andrew 47mins 11secs and Ian Hopkinson 58mins 20secs.
Among the women Katie Percival was 30th out of 71 runners in 32mins 00secs: Kate Holden ran 34mins 20secs: Lisa Carter, sixth in the vet-45 age group, 35mins 17secs and Karen Doherty 39mins 32secs.
In the 8.3 mile Flower Scar Fell Race at Todmorden covering 2,165 feet of climbing Fiona Lynch was second vet-40 in 1hr 36mins 19secs: Mauro Rotondi ran 1hr 39mins 39secs: Luigi Salzano 1hr 40mins 51secs and Paul Swyers 1hr 44mins 11secs.
Wayne Holden took on the tough hilly Standish Hall Trail 10k at Wigan and clocked 1hr 08mins 30secs.
In parkruns Peter Hunter ran 21mins 07secs at Heaton Park. Sheila Jones 23mins 51secs: Nick Barnes 24mins 24secs: Tammy Oluyori 30mins 12secs and Iain Harris 35mins 27secs. At Bolton Rob Lister clocked 23mins 19secs and Mark Williams 23mins 26secs.
The club has more than 200 entries already for its popular Terry Nortley 10 Mile Multi-terrain Race next Sunday (Feb 26th). It takes in the the nature trail and the race headquarters will be at Cams Lane Primary School. Start time is 11am and entries can be taken on the day.
