DAVE McGrath had a good week when he came eighth out of 187 runners in the Pennington Flash 5 Mile Trail Race on Sunday after having a good run out on the hills in the midweek Golf Ball Fell Race.

He clocked 30mins 25secs in the trail event and came 16th in the fell race out of 236 runners with a time of 41mins 49secs.

The club had a fine turnout for the trail race despite the wet conditions with 28 taking part and getting plenty of prizes. Close on Dave’s heels was Ian Warrington in 9th position in 30mins 44secs, Katie Percival was fourth woman in 34mins 58secs, Jenny Yates first vet-50 clocking 35mins 45secs, Benn Hewood was second under 23 in 36mins 42secs, Amanda Callan first vet-35 in 38mins 38secs and Sheila Jones first vet-60 in 40mins 00secs.

Being run for the 10th year the race was on country paths and tracks around the Leigh Sports Village and the Pennington Flash Country Park. In third for the club was Chris Whittaker in 16th place clocking 31mins 26secs: Craig Norman was 36th in a time of 33mins 06secs: Chris Paxton, 28th, ran 32mins 16secs: Rob Lister (V50) 34mins 52secs: Dave Rushton (V50) 35mins 31secs:Mark Garner (V45) 35mins 52secs: Michael Kontowtt (V55) 36mins 15secs: Nick Barnes 36mins 44secs: Steve Hamer, third vet-60, 37mins 41secs: Kate Holden (V40) 38mins 42secs: Chris Fletcher 39mins 33secs: Caroline Mullineaux (V40) 39mins 52secs: Helen Sandiford 43mins 00secs: Kirsten Cook third vet-55 in 43mins 38secs: Caroline Malone (V45) 44mins 24secs: Debi Warrington (V45) 46mins 46secs, a 5 mile pb: Wayne Holden 47mins 56secs: Sarah Rushton (V45) 49mins 09secs:Andy Wheeler (V60) 49mins 37secs:Iain Harris (V65) 51mins 49secs: and Natalie Hitchen who got herself a personal best time with 53mins 56secs. The race was part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix which the club takes part in along with several other clubs.

Nineteen runners went along to the popular Wednesday night Golf Ball Fell Race on the hills above Loveclough, Rossendale, with Benn Heywood having a good run putting him second U23 and in 38th place overall in 45mins 11secs, and Fiona Lynch took fifth place among the women and first vet-40 in 50mins 47secs.

Covering 5.5 miles in murky then clearing conditions the race climbed 800 plus feet with Chris Whittaker third in for the club in 39th position in 45mins 16 secs, Craig Norman was 55th in 48mins 17secs and Chris Paxton 59th running 48mins 50secs. James Hall ran 49mins 39secs: Andy Haines 51mins 49secs: Paul Swyers (V50) 51mins 59secs: Peter McNulty was third vet-60 in 54mins 47secs: John Andrew (V45) clocked 55mins 08secs: Nick Barnes 57mins 54secs: Steve Hamer (V60) 58mins 23secs: John Mcnicholl (V50) 1hr 00mins 00secs: Mark Garner (V45) 1hr 00mins 55secs: Lisa Carter, fourth vet-45 and with a five minute pb ran 1hr 01min 56secs: Chris Fletcher 1hr 10mins 35secs: Sheila McNulty, first vet-70, 1hr 13mins 36secs and Susanne Andrew (V45) 1hr 15mins 02secs. The race was another in the Run The Moors Grand Prix and with only two races left competition is hotting up between the clubs taking part and the good turnout got Radcliffe valuable points.

The race was also the last of a midweek series of four local events organised b Rossendale Harriers and two members completed all four. Dave McGrath was third overall in the series and Lisa Carter second woman V45 and sixth woman overall.

It was girl power when six women from the club went to Media City, Salford midweek to race

in the Media City 10k and 5k.
On four fast flat laps in the 10k, Katie Benson clocked 54mins 35secs followed closely by Caroline Malone getting a personal best time and third vet-45 placing in 54mins 52secs. Lisa Donnelly notched up a pb with 1hr 04mins 35secs: Tracey Wroe was third vet-55 in 1hr 06mins 14secs and new member Bev Quinton (V50) ran 1hr 08mins 58secs. Covering two laps on the 5k course Christine Berry came home second vet-50 in 33mins 50secs.
Mark Wolfenden raced further afield when he ran the Shipman Knotts Fell Race at Maggs Howe, Kentmere in the Lake District. On the 3.7 mile tough course with 1,312 feet of climbing he clocked 1hr 10mins.

Karen Doherty (V45) was the only member to run the midweek Stan Curran 5k event at Cowm Reservoir clocking 29mins 39secs.

Andy Haines did his first parkrun at Worsley Woods and clocked 20mins 51secs.
