NEAL Emmerson took a great second place in the Blackpool Marathon on Sunday and the club had three other runners joining the 40,000 in the London Marathon.

Neil improved on his fourth place at Blackpool last year and his time by more than two minutes when he clocked a fine 2hrs 49m 39secs. It was a close battle between the top three with the first runner beating him by only 39 seconds, and there was six seconds between Neil and the third placed runner.

He said the leader had overtaken him at 24miles but had gone the wrong way due to a marshal error and had also fallen and still got back on track so he had deserved his win.

In some warm weather in London Ian Warrington was well pleased with his 3hrs 08mins 26secs as was Kris Lee with 3hrs 44mins 34secs, three minutes slower than his previous Chester Marathon but still sub 3hrs 45mins.But it was a disappointing day for Chemane Brier who felt ill in the event but was determined to finish and clocked 5hrs 01min 03sec, well below the time she is capable of running.

There was a good turnout of 12 runners at the Bolton 10k on Sunday with most people who had done it the previous year improving their time. It was good to see Eileen out supporting at the race.

In the Wray Village Scarecrow Festival 10k Bev McGrath clocked 1hr 1min. The race was part of a ten day Festival and Fair with many attractions and in the Scarecrow Festival there were scarecrows on every corner. She described Wray, near Lancaster, as a fabulous village with lots of hills!

Dave Barlett ran the midweek Peter Erhardt 5k Trail Race which had two laps round Cowm Reservoir at Whitworth and came home in 25mins 33secs.

In the parkruns Peter Hunter clocked 21mins 18secs at Heaton Park and was 52nd out of an amazing 751 runners.
