RADCLIFFE AC runners have certainly been clocking up the miles….. to get to events. One travelled to the Berlin Marathon and three took on monster challenges at Scotland’s Loch Ness.
Sarah Oxley had “an amazing experience” when she joined the thousands in the Berlin Marathon and was well pleased to get under five hours with her time of 4hrs 55mins 03secs.
Two took on the tough Loch Ness Marathon in wet and windy conditions joining more than 8,000 in a weekend Festival of Running at Bught Park, Inverness. McKenzie Madison said “It was hell, raining and windy all the way but I am happy with 4hrs 08mins 26secs in the bad weather.” Bev McGrath clocked 5hrs 25mins 56secs and Caroline Mullineaux ran the River Ness 10k clocking 51mins 09secs.
Twenty-six members kept up the club challenge in the Central Lancs Grand Prix when they ran the Swinton 5.25 Mile Road Race on Sunday with Neal Emmerson coming home sixth out of 181 runners in 29mins 44secs. Benn Heywood was next in clocking 31mins 54secs in 15th position and third and fourth for Radcliffe with ten second between them were Ian Warrington in 24th position in 32mins 40secs and Chris Paxton running 32mins 50secs, one position behind. Michael Kontowtt was second vet-50 and 37th in 34mins 43secs and Mauro Rotondi (V45) ran 35mins 37secs. The women’s team were third and the men’s fourth.
Lee Turner and cyclist Grant Halliwell from Whitworth teamed up by mixing running and cycling when they took part in the Holcombe Mountain Duathlon Relay coming a fine third in an overall time of 2hrs 31mins 17secs. The event had an 8.3km run to Peel Tower and a 27km bike ride, followed by the same off-road run in reverse.
It was the hills for Nick Barnes when he competed in a mini mountain marathon on Cowpe Moor, Rossendale on Sunday finishing 29th out 58 after covering 13miles in just over three hours visiting controls..
Donna Cartwright was first woman home and 12th overall out of 52 runners in 22mins 09secs in the midweek Roger White Brownhouse Reservoir 5k Race at Whitworth, Rochdale. On an undulating course Lee Turner clocked 23mins 15secs putting him 15th with Sarah Turner clocking 26mins 57secs coming first woman vet-45 and 25th overall. Lisa Carter was second vet-45, 27th in 27mins 37secs and won a bottle of rose in the raffle. There were plenty of spot prizes as well!
In the midweek Barrow Bridge 5k at Bolton on a course taking runners through Moss Bank Park Mike Kontowtt was 11th out of 99 and second vet-50 in 20mins with vet-60 Andy Wheeler clocking 28mins 32secs and Natalie Hitchen 32mins 27secs.
In the 5k parkruns at Heaton Park Nick Barnes ran 22mins 12secs and Tammy Oluyori 28mins 49secs. Davies 27mins 48secs and Lucy Dewhurst 34mins 29secs. Vince Ashton ran at Carlisle, his 47th location, clocking 27mins 39secs.
