SIX Radcliffe AC runners took on the second highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday when they ran the 6.8 mile Ingleborough Fell Race.
Chris Whittaker was first home for the club in 40th position out of 209 finishers covering the course with 1,968 feet of climbing in 1hr 0mins 25secs.
They were battling for points in the season long Run The Moors Grand Prix which involves several local fell running clubs and coming in second for Radcliffe was Craig Norman in 72nd place in 1hr 6mins 10secs. Andy Haines ran 1hr 7mins 35secs: Chris Paxton 1hr 7mins 49secs: Paul Swyers 1hr 11mins 41secs and Lisa Carter, the only woman from the club running, clocked 1hr 27mins 41secs, putting her fourth vet-45. The event was part of the Ingleton Gala and started from the local community centre sports field.
Rob Lister ran the second in the aptly named Sale Sizzler 5k series clocking 20mins 51secs and Mark Garner faced the evening heat last Thursday when he ran the Media City 10k in Salford, running 45mins 36secs.
In the popular 5k parkruns Katie Percival ran 22mins 04secs at Bolton, a pb, Mark Garner clocked 22mins 28secs: Mark Williams 23mins 38secs: Steve Lomax 24mins 25secs: Kris Booth 27mins 07secs: Paul Barrington 27mins 08secs: Kath Davies 28mins 46secs: David Schofield 30mins 30secs and Elaine Bailey 30mins 15secs.
At Heaton Park Nick Barnes ran 23mins 01sec: Peter Hunter 23mins 28secs: Iain Harris 30mins 58secs and Lucy Dewhurst 37mins 25secs.
Rob Lister ran at Stretford clocking 20mins 20secs, Sheila Jones ran at Crosby and clocked 25mins 10secs, Vince Ashton “tourist “ parkrunner visited his 57th location at Glossop and ran 26mins 57secs and Sharon Peterkin and daughter Megan ran together at Aberystwyth while on holiday with junior Megan clocking 46mins 36secs and mum 46mins 37secs.
There was some fell experience for Christine Berry and Katie Benson when they joined Ramsbottom Running Club on their regular evening session to run a on Holcombe. Christine’s dog Floss also enjoyed an evening on the fells!
