GUTSY Sinead Hayes added another ultra to her list and an eigth place when she took on the Coltswold 24 Hour Race at weekend.
Runners in the event, on the Bathurst Estate just outside Cirencester, could compete as a relay team or solo and the aim was to complete as many laps of a 9km course as possible in 24 hours.
Starting at noon on Saturday Sinead joined the solo female class and completed just over 12 laps in 16.5 hours before suffering sickness and cramping legs and being forced to stop. She did attempt to start another lap but without success and finally notched up 109.7km putting her in eighth position.
She described it as a “cracking event” but it was one of several ultras she as already completed so far this season. She is raising cash for the Good Life Orphanage, a Kenyan based UK funded charity. Her parents are founders of the charity.
Four Radcliffe AC members faced Wales’ highest peak when they took on the Snowdonia Trail Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday.
In the marathon with 5,500 feet of climbing and starting and finishing in LLanberis Fiona Lynch was 11th woman in 5hrs 19mins 52secs and third vet-40, coming 75th out of 691 runners.The course on road, trail and fell circumnavigated and eventually climbed Snowdon. Mauro Rotondi clocked 6hrs 13mins 30secs and was 24th vet-45 out of 97 and in 321st place overall and Scott Baxter was 275th overall with a time of 6hrs 26mins 48secs.
Dave Rushton ran the half marathon which took in much of the same course but climbed Snowdon from the Ranger route. He clocked 2hrs 44mins 46secs and was 99th out of 511.
Neal Emmerson was showing his form again when he took fifth place, clocking 49mins 58secs in the Arthur James ShakeRR Multi-terrain Race at Saltaire, West Yorkshire on Sunday. The event started next to Roberts Park and was an eight mile loop following sections of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath but also had an undulating woodland section.
Wayne Holden has now completed three of the four Horwich 5 Mile Jubilee Road Race Series on a tough undulating course and recorded 47mins 32secs on Wednesday night.
In the midweek Sale Sizzler 5k Mike Kontowtt got under 20 minutes for the first time when he ran 19mins 56secs, coming 209th and 8th vet-50. Iain Harris (V65) also ran clocking 27mins 54secs.
In the parkruns Rob Lister was fourth at Runcorn when he ran 20mins 54secs and Vince Ashton was multi-tasking at Bolton when he did the pre-run and then was tail walker.
Paul Swyers (vet-50) was first for the club at Bolton in 21mins 49secs: Kath Davies (V50) ran 28mins 51secs: Mark Murphy (V45) 31mins 22secs and Lucy Dewhurst 37mins 29secs. At Heaton Park Peter Hunter clocked 23mins 02secs: Tammy Oluyori 28mins 15secs and Iain Harris 32mins 11secs.
