FIONA Lynch described the challenging Trigger fell race in the Peak District as “ace” after she took it on running 24.5 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing in 5hrs 22mins.
A strong field left Marsden Cricket Club to run from Marsden to Edale on Sunday needing navigational skills over Black Hill, Bleaklow, and Kinder and visiting three trig points en route. She said “There were bogs and tussocks galore between mammoth climbs. This is a repeater race for me. It was ace. I loved it!”
Bev McGrath joined former Radcliffe member Dawn Evans, now running for Burnden, in an ultra run on the Isle of Anglesey on Saturday. They had planned to do the full 33.5 miles but facing mountains, muddy bogs, continual wind and rain and even being chased by horses on one stretch, they were timed out at the marathon distance, a performance they can be proud of in such tough conditions. They are both running the 50 mile Chester Ultra in March and Saturday’s race was a training event.
Michelle Hincks took part in a 10k in darkness when she ran the Rivington Night Run on Saturday and was rewarded by beating last year’s time in the event by five minutes.
Wearing a headtorch over some rough terrain, including climbing and moorland, marked out by reflective signs she clocked 1hr 16mins 12secs..
Elliot Boyd was buzzing after getting himself a personal best time of 51mins 53secs in the 5th East Lancs Hospice 10k at Great Harwood, Blackburn on Sunday.
There was success in the 5k parkruns for Radcliffe runners with Neal Emmerson coming in first at Worsley Woods with a great time of 17mins 26secs out of 440 runners and Chris Whittaker marking his birthday by coming 13th out of a record number of 867 at Heaton Park in 18mins 58secs, just outside his pb. Clubmate Mark Garner got himself a pb with 21mins 49secs.
Also at Heaton Park Peter Hunter ran 23mins 41secs: Sheila Jones 23mins 47secs: Katie Benson 29mins 07secs: Karen Doherty 29mins 36secs: Jen Entwistle 31mins 39secs and Lisa Donnelly 31mins 45secs.
At Bolton Katie Percival ran 22mins 41secs: Ken Smith 23mins 30secs: Grace Williams 28mins 22secs: Sarah Rushton 35mins 10secs: Wayne Holden 35mins 35secs and Mark Murphy 36mins 30secs.
