RADCLIFFE AC runners travelled to Chester, Rochdale and even France in their busy season of racing.
In the Chester Marathon there was success for Jenny Yates who smashed her personal best time by seven minutes when she ran 3hrs 36mins 26secs. She came in 8th vet-50 despite some fierce competition in her age category when age group championships were included in the event. She was well pleased with her time and is working towards the Manchester Marathon next April. Michelle Hincks ran 5hrs 00mins 51secs but she has been in heavy training for a tough ultra next month so had no need to feel disappointed with her time.
As well as the marathon, the ninth one on a spectacular and historic route starting from the racecourse, the city held a Metric Marathon, 26. 2km, and Chris Whittaker came home in 18th position and fourth male V35 in 1hr 50mins 24secs. Covering 16.3 miles and billed as a stepping stone to a full marathon, Caroline Mullineaux, recovered from a challenging event in Scotland the weekend before, ran 2hrs 49mins 18secs.
At Rochdale the club took part in the town’s half marathon and 10k on traffic free roads starting from the splendid town hall and running along the canal and in the longer event to Hollingworth Lake. There more success when Dave Rushton had a pb in the half marathon with 1hr 35mins 44secs and was ninth vet-50, Steve Hamer was second vet-60 in 1hr 39mins 27secs and Mark Garner (V45) ran 1hr 44mins 35secs. In the 10k Kate Holden (V40) clocked 46mins 30secs: Chris Fletcher 47mins 19secs: Kirsten Cook (V55) 52mins 29secs and Sarah Rushton (V45) 1hr 01min 27secs.
Lee Turner and John Andrew travelled further afield for their race to La Celle in Var in southeastern France when they took part in the 13km Trail of the Loube with John clocking 1hr 29mins and Lee, running it for the second year, 1hr 31mins. Poor weather meant a longer event had to be cancelled. It did clear but left some muddy climbs along a testing course.
In the popular 5k parkruns Karen Doherty did the Keswick Parkrun in 29mins 20secs and 12 people ran locally at Heaton Park with Nick Barnes clocking 22mins 43secs: Sheila Jones 23mins 20secs: Peter Hunter 24mins 08secs: junior Ben Darbyshire 27mins 31secs: Kath Davies 27mins 39secs: Tammy Oluyori 28mins 56secs: Amanda Darbyshire 29mins 28secs: junior Olivia Whittaker 30mins 45secs: Lucy Tetler 33mins 00secs: Bev Quinton 38mins 24secs: Tracy Wroe 38mins 27secs and Sharon Peterkin 40mins 41secs.
