RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright took a fine 23rd place out of 82 women in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park on Saturday.

On a four mile plus course with deep mud in the wooded section but great conditions for cross country she clocked 31mins 15secs.

Neil Emmerson was 30th out of 141 men on a longer six mile course in 40mins 10secs.

An improving Dave McGrath was next home behind Neal in 57th place in 43mins 37secs closely followed by Ian Warrington in 61st place in 43mins 53secs. Mike Kontowtt clocked 48mins 02secs and Peter Warr 1hr 6mins 57secs. The men’s team was 11th out of 19 teams.

Among the women Eileen Sharman clocked 42mins 50secs and Karen Doherty 45mins 51secs.

For Karen it was a double race weekend. On Sunday she ran the Northern Masters AC tough 10k trail race at Smithills, Bolton, receiving a voucher prize after winning her vet-40 age category in 1hr 6mins 47secs.

The parkruns were popular again especially at Heaton Park where 13 ran. Chris Whittaker clocked a fine 19mins 29secs: Mauro Rotondi got himself a pb with 21mins 16secs: Mark Garner ran 22mins 33secs: Peter Hunter 23mins 06secs: Nick Barnes 23mins 30secs: Sheila Jones 24mins 18secs: Katie Benson 29mins 15secs: Lisa Donnelly 32mins 04secs: Iain Harris 32mins 12secs: Christine Berry 37mins 31secs: Sarah Oxley and Lucy Dewhurst 39mins 29secs and Sharon Peterkin 47mins 47secs. At Bolton Paul Swyers clocked 23mins 02secs and Mark Murphy 33mins 32secs.

We have all seen Jenny’s horrific injury after being attacked by a dog while out training on Saturday. She is now recovering and on antibiotics but with a very nasty wound. The dog appeared to come from some gypsy caravans so the police are investigating and the local paper has already been in touch with Jenny. Lisa, our ladies captain, who was with Jenny when the dog attacked her, has taken the issue up with James Frith MP.

A flying Dave!
