RADCLIFFE AC’s Fiona Lynch battled the heat to come third woman in the 30 mile Peak Skyline and was a fine 15th overall with her time of 5hrs 48mins 42secs.
She was third woman when she ran it last year but this year on Sunday was further up the field in the challenging event which takes place in the Peak District’s White Peak area crossing gritstone and moorland and climbing 6,500 feet. It took in Shuttlingsloe, locally known as the Matterhorn of the Peak District.
She said: It was much hotter than last year and it made it tougher. I went out treating it as a training run so there was no pressure. I was third lady from about eight miles.”
Chris Whittaker had a good run in the York 10k on Sunday despite the weather coming home in 61st place in a huge field in 37mins 48secs. He said it was a tough hot run.
He was one of three club members who travelled to the Viking capital to run its fast flat scenic course with Mark Garner (V40) clocking 44mins 25secs and Debi Warrington (V40) getting a personal best for 10k with 1hr 00mins 49secs.It was the 10th running of a very popular event.
Dave McGrath had a sixth place when he ran the evening Whittle Pike Fell Race clocking 48mins 43secs. It was one of many top ten places on the fells for the improving runner so far this season. The tough, rough 4. 5 mile event with 1,400 feet of climbing was on the hills above Waterfoot in Rawtenstall and Lisa Carter was the only woman from the club running coming home third vet-45 and 10th lady in 1hr 16mins 23secs.
Mark Wolfenden combined hills and trails when he ran the Worsthorne Moor Trail race near Burnley on Sunday. The vet-55 clocked 1hr 06mins 22secs, and Rob Lister ran the third in the Sale Sizzler series 5k and clocked 20mins 30secs.
There were a lot of different 5k parkruns this week with Mark Wolfenden running one on his holidays in Bognor Regis, a course with winding paths but flat, and clocking 23mins 34secs in 25th place. Rob Lister ran with “Turbodog” Austin at Stretford in a time of 20mins 30secs, same time as his Sizzler, and Vince Ashton was at Worsley Woods and clocked 30mins 35secs.

At Heaton Park Nickj Barnes clocked 23mins 36secs: Sheila Jones 23mins 41secs: Chris Fletcher 24mins 01sec: Peter Hunter 24mins 18secs and Iain Harris 31mins 48secs.
