NINE Radcliffe AC runners travelled to the Lake District to take part in marathons and half marathons at Coniston.
In hot conditions, Fiona Lynch ran the Coniston Trail Marathon and was the seventh woman and second vet-40 with a time of 4hrs 06mins. She beat her time from last year by 14 minutes.
Mauro Rotondi clocked 4hrs 19mins 28secs, John Andrew 4hrs 53mins and Lisa Carter 5hrs 31mins. The event took in a complete circuit on Coniston Water.
Dave and Bev McGrath took on the Coniston Marathon Challenge, a less competitive event for runners and fitness walkers but still a tough course in the warm conditions, along with Caroline Mullineaux doing her first marathon. Dave McGrath ran just over 5hrs and Bev and Caroline ran together clocking 6hrs 51mins 25secs.
There was also a Coniston Half Marathon Race completed by Lee Turner in 1hr 53mins and a Half Marathon Challenge run by Susanne Andrew in 2hrs 34mins.
Four took on the 6.4 mile Edenfield Fell Race from Edenfield Cricket Club with its 1,565 feet of climbing and Dave Rushton (V50) was the first home for Radcliffe in 29th place out of 99 runners with a time of 56mins 59secs. Paul Swyers (V50) was 41st and ran 1hr 10secs with Luigi Salzano clocking 1hr 2mins 28secs and Rachael Stoney 1hr 9mins 28secs.
In the Burnley 10k on Sunday, being run for the fifth time, Lucy Dewhurst clocked 1hr 09mins 36secs and combining his running with swimming and cycling Mark Cartwright took on the Olympic distance of the Deva Triathlon at Grosvenor Park, Chester finishing in a fine 2hrs 47mins 16secs.
There was a sea of yellow at Bolton Parkrun on Saturday as past and present members in club vests along with family and friends gathered to pay their tribute to Eileen. She had been a familiar face at Leverhulme Park and there was a minute’s applause for her before the start. Her daughter Pip did the run and her partner Stuart were also there.
At Keswick, Karen Doherty and Chris Fletcher paid their respects running the parkrun and Rob Lister was at Wythenshawe. In Queensland, Australia Radcliffe member Tony Holt said he would remember Eileen by running the Surfers Paradise Parkrun.
