  • Celebrating after the Ron Hill 79th Birthday race with the man himself.

RADCLIFFE AC had 31 runners in the Gin Pit 5 at Tyldesley keeping up their challenge in the Central Lancs Grand Prix series.

In the tenth and final race Neal Emmerson was fifth overall out of 265 runners in 30mins 03secs, Donna Cartwright fourth woman and first woman vet-40 clocking 34mins 42secs and Sheila Jones first vet-60 running 42mins 16secs. On a multi-lap course with a testing climb and plenty of mud the women’s team was fourth counting Katie Percival clocking 36mins 57secs and Kate Holden 39mins 48secs alongside Donna. The men’s team was fifth with Neal, Chris Paxton, 20th, clocking 31mins 51secs and Mike Kontowtt, fourth vet-50 and 39th running 34mins 17secs. With lots of new members, good coaching and encouragement the club has improved massively from only 10 in the event last year and when the final standings are worked out by the grand prix organisers the club could feature highly in a few categories. Chairman Chris said it had been a proud day.

Sarah Oxley took on the Redcar Half Marathon in North Yorkshire clocking 2hrs 24mins 07secs.
Ten ran the tough midweek Ron Hill 79th Birthday 5k Race and even had their photograph taken with the former Olympic runner.

In the event at Whitworth, Rochdale, Chris Paxton was ninth and first for the club in 20mins 59secs, Mauro Rotondi (V45) was 19th and ran 22mins 55secs and Kris Lee was second vet-40 and 21st in 23mins 04secs. Jenny Yates was fourth woman and first-vet 50 in 25mins 03secs: Lisa Carter was first vet-45 in 27mins 50secs: Vince Ashton (V45) ran 28mins 45secs: Iain Harris (V65) 32mins50secs: Andy Wheeler (V60) 33mins 10secs and new members Lisa Donnelly and Christine Berry, both vet-45, were praised for taking on such a tough race so early in their running careers, running 36mins 17secs and 40mins 01sec respectively.

Jenny Yates was first vet-50 in the Littleborough 10k on a flat picturesque course clocking 46mins 43secs and was using that and the Ron Hill race as tapering down events before she runs the Chester Marathon at weekend.

In the 5k parkruns Sheila Jones clocked 24mins 49secs at Oldham and at Bolton Mark Williams ran 25mins 43secs and Kath Davies 27mins 42secs.
