RADCLIFFE AC’s Fiona Lynch took on the challenging 14 mile Howgills Fell Race on Saturday finishing sixth woman and third vet-40 in a time of 3hrs 58mins.
In good conditions the event from Sedbergh in Cumbria had nearly 7,000 feet of climbing and she described some of the climbs an descents as “mammoth” but was well pleased with her result.
Andy Haines travelled to the Isle of Man for his race, the Manx Half Mountain Marathon, another tough event coming home in a creditable 16th place in 2hrs 26mins.
Seven ran the popular Salford 10k on Good Friday with Katie Percival first home for the club in 42mins 47secs. Jenny Yates was third vet-50 and had a personal best vet time by a minute, running 43mins 24secs. Nick Barnes clocked 47mins 32secs: Kirsten Cook was third vet-55 in 53mins 25secs: Katie Benson ran 54mins 30secs: Vince Ashton (V45) 56mins 41secs and Karen Doherty (V40) 1hr 02mins 18secs.
One of the oldest fell races in the country the Rivington Pike Fell Race at Horwich attracted more than 350 runners among them seven from Radcliffe. A lung-bursting 3.2mile with 699 feet of climbing Dave McGrath was 29th in 22mins 02secs. Paul Swyers (V50) clocked 26mins 04secs: Lee Turner (V50) 26mins 36secs: Dave Rushton, also a vet-50, ran 27mins 29secs: Susanne Andrew (V45) 33mins 28secs: Wayne Holden 40mins 45secs and Karen Doherty (V40) 41mins 14secs.
In the midweek Brenda and Colin Robinson 5k Road Race at Cowm Reservoir in Whitworth, Rochdale Chris Whittaker got himself a personal best time by 22 seconds for the distance clocking 18mins 05 secs, putting him 15th out of 105 runners. Janet Rigby (V50) ran a fine 25mins 10secs. Caroline Malone (V45) clocked 27mins 10secs, also a pb, Leonora Rose (V45) ran 27mins 24secs and Karen Doherty (V40) 30mins 42secs. The popular event was two laps of the Cowm Reservoir.
On the same night Wayne Holden ran the first in a series of three Curley’s 5k events from Curley’s Dining Rooms in Horwich clocking 34mins 26secs.
Also in the midweek Pete Hartley Memorial Liver Hill Fell Race there was a 24th place out of 128 runners for Dave McGrath when he clocked 41mins 07secs on the 4.3 mile course with 820 feet of climbing. Run from Marl Pits Sports Centre at Rawtenstall Lee Turner (V50) came 67th in 49mins 30secs and Peter Booth (V45) clocked 1hr 00mins 11secs.
In the parkruns Mark Garner (V45) ran 21mins 44secs at Heaton Park with Steve Hamer (V60) getting back to form, and clocking 25mins 06secs, closely followed by Chris Fletcher in 25mins 16secs. Nick Barnes ran 26mins 24secs: Peter Hunter 30mins and Debi Warrington, running with husband Ian, 30mins 11 secs. Sheila Jones (V60) ran the Millom Parkrun in Cumbria in 34mins 47secs.
At Bolton Paul Swyers (V50) clocked 22mins 35secs: Katie Percival 23mins 43secs: Lisa Donnelly (V50) 32mins 58secs: Natalie Hitchen (V40) 36mins 45secs: Jen Entwistle 39mins 24secs and Sarah Oxley and Lucy Dewhurst 39mins 28secs.
